When Should You Wear a Bow Tie?
All the time. Formal, professional, or casual — it doesn't matter. A well-made bow tie is appropriate for any occasion, and it's the fastest way to stand out and be remembered. Not sure where to start? Browse by moment:
Self-Tie vs. Pre-Tied
We believe every guy should be able to tie his own bow tie, so roughly 90% of our ties are self-tie — they look sharper, sit more naturally, and earn more compliments. We also keep classic black and white pre-tied options for last-minute occasions (weddings, we're looking at you).
How to Tie a Bow Tie
It looks harder than it is. Once you've done it twice, it's muscle memory. Here's the short version:
- Drape the tie around your neck, with one end about two inches longer than the other.
- Cross the long end over the short end, then bring it up and through the loop at your neck.
- Fold the short end into a bow shape, centered at your collar.
- Drop the long end straight down over the middle of that bow.
- Fold the hanging long end back on itself to form the back half of the bow.
- Push that folded end through the knot behind the front half of the bow.
- Pull gently on both folded ends to tighten, then straighten and adjust until it's even.
Caring for Your Bow Tie
Our silk ties are naturally stain-resistant; our cotton ties are not, so treat those with a little more care around the hot sauce. Store your ties flat or loosely rolled to protect the interlining and keep that full-knot shape.
